ACS Relay For Life of Wooster

The 16^th annual American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Wooster takes place from 7 pm Friday to 1 pm Saturday at Wooster High School’s Follis Field, 515 Oldman Road, Wooster. It’s about a community that takes up the fight!

 

Relay For Life is an overnight, team event. Teams form and raise money prior to the event, then come prepared to camp out and enjoy the activities and the celebration of life. Fundraising teams are formed from all sectors of our community... families, churches, organizations, schools, businesses, public employee groups, health care professionals, and more. Team members take turns walking or running around the track - in relay fashion - throughout the 18-hour event. Proceeds raised from this event are used for cancer research, education, advocacy and prevention and quality of life services.

 

Highlights: The Opening Ceremony begins at 7 pm on Friday. It includes the Survivors Lap and reception which recognizes anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer, whether they have just been diagnosed, are currently undergoing treatment, or have been in remission for 50+ years. Area cancer survivors are invited to participate without cost and should call the American Cancer Society at 1-888-ACS-OHIO to register or sign up for the Survivor Lap at www.relayforlife.org/wooster. When the sun goes down, luminarias surround the track in honor of those who have fought the battle against cancer and the Luminaria Ceremony begins. This traditional ceremony of light symbolizes the hope and perseverance with which every participant will continue to fight against the disease. The Closing Ceremony begins at 12:30 pm on Saturday and includes award presentations for the 2012 event. Additional contests, games and activities, music and entertainment are planned throughout the event, making Relay For Life of Wooster fun for every age group.
