Dr. Daniel Deckler, professor of engineering at The University of Akron Wayne College, will be the spring speaker in the college’s Faculty Focus series. Deckler will present Behind the Scenes on Capitol Hill, which will highlight his recent experiences in Washington, D.C.
Faculty Focus will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Wayne College auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Deckler has spent considerable time in Washington, D.C. in the past several years. He was selected from a nationwide search to be the Faculty Member in Residence for the Washington Internships for Students of Engineering (WISE) program during summer 2009.
Prior to that, Deckler was chosen as one of only two American Society of Mechanical Engineers Congressional Fellows to serve on Capitol Hill during the 2007-08 academic year. During his fellowship, Deckler worked on a variety of issues, including the economics of climate change, nanotechnology, cyber security, health IT, STEM education, women in science and engineering and engineering globalization.
