Is jazz a mystery and you wonder how to get your head around it? Or maybe you actually play in a jazz band now? Or you know you like a certain kind of jazz… but not so sure about the rest of it? This class is for all of you! Together we will dig deep into the lives and times of renowned jazzers and their music, using stories and legends, archival recordings, videos, and photos. We’ll talk about what we hear and find ways to listen and appreciate more broadly. Rather than sticking to a chronological history, each week will feature a different tune, individual, band, era, instrument, or other aspect of this Made-in-America art form. Required materials for this class: ears and curiosity.
