Shashmaqam: The Music of Central Asia

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO), in conjunction with the Wayne County Public Library, present Central Asian ensemble Shashmaqam on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 7 pm at the Wooster Public Library, 220 W. Liberty Street, Wooster. The program is free. 

Shashmaqam is a Central Asian musical genre typical of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It may have developed in the ancient city of Bukhara. Shashmaqam means the six Maqams (modes) in the Persian language. It is a refined sort of music, with lyrics derived from Sufi poems about divine love. Don’t miss this Introductory Workshop  that will provide a context for the big concert at Highland High School in Medina on October 26 at 8 pm.
